This is an outreach program that meets a course requirement in the School of Education. The collaboration involves sending CU Boulder students that are participating in the Knowing and Learning teacher licensure course to various middle and high schools in the Boulder Valley School District to serve as Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) tutors. AVID is a nationwide program designed to provide extra academic support for first-generation college bound high school students who show promise in their academic careers. CU Boulder students are required to tutor five times over the course of the semester and develop a portrait of one adolescent that they have worked with consistently.
