This project enlists teacher partners in rural schools to help co-construct materials for fellow teachers that might help bridge divides between racial (and political) communities, support compassionate engagement,  attend to teacher well–being, and further cross-cultural and cross-linguistic understanding. Several rural (partner) districts have requested these kinds of basic and humanizing materials. Partners are looking for materials to share with colleagues and administration that can help create a more unified, caring, and compassionate climate in which to teach.

With the help of an Outreach Award from the University of Colorado Boulder’s Office for Outreach and Engagement, we will work with teacher leaders from partner districts in rural Colorado to co-create materials, resources, and/or programs that address any or all of the political subtexts teachers have navigated over the past few years.  We have a menu of options including a series of asynchronous modules, a 2-hr. workshop, and a teacher toolkit for designing and teaching with compassion and inclusivity. We will finalize details in collaboration with our Community Liaisons and teacher partners who play a key role in making programmatic decisions.

  Six teachers representing several rural Colorado school districts will participate in authoring professional learning opportunities for other teachers. These materials are aimed at providing a basic introduction to inclusive practices, teaching with compassion, and anti-racism.
