This project is one of six Community Design Workshop initiatives organized through the MetroLab partnership between CU Boulder, the cities of Boulder, Longmont, Lyons and Denver and Boulder Counties.
The Community Design Workshop has four goals:
- Support CU Boulder students in multiple classes to participate in community engagement and design training
- Identify opportunities and priorities for neighborhood revitalization based on interviews and interactions with residents, other stakeholders and users of the area, and city staff
- Develop design and policy solutions resident and stakeholder-identified problems
- Engage residents and users of the area in a dialogue about ideas for neighborhood revitalization using interactive presentations and performances of student work.
In this project on University Hill in Boulder, the work produced by student and faculty participants in the Community Design Workshop has addressed multiple design and development opportunities including the revitalization of the commercial district and planning for adjoining residential areas, urban design around proposed hotels and a conference center, improvements on the Broadway corridor and related walking/bicycle routes, and facilities planning at the University. These projects will positively affect the vitality and livability of central Boulder and the University of Colorado Boulder.
