The Science Community Outreach Program and Education (S.C.O.P.E.) is a student organization that aims to increase historically underrepresented K-8 students’ science identity and access to science education. The program has three core goals:
- Increase interest in science at the pre-high school level with an emphasis on service to schools with historically underrepresented students.
- Provide a unique opportunity for K-8 students to meet working scientists from the University of Colorado at Boulder and perform hands-on science experiments.
- Offer teaching and classroom opportunities at the pre-high school student level for CU Boulder staff, post-docs, and graduate and undergraduate students.
“Meet a scientist, be a scientist” is S.C.O.P.E.’s motto and primary mission.
6th and 7th Grade Outreach
Additional Info
Each outreach event consists of a 1 hour class period. Volunteers are paired with four 6th or 7th grade students to perform a variety of hands-on experiments that examine the scope of science here on Earth. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for one or as many volunteer slots as they would like. S.C.O.P.E. will assign carpooling for the event and will reimburse for driving expenses.
