The Puksta Scholars is an exemplary academic scholarship program for undergraduate students who have a deep commitment to civic engagement, who want to bring about positive change within our communities and society, who demonstrate strong academic goals and want to further their knowledge and skills.

Puksta Scholars are engaged in a rich and stimulating program of civic engagement. Each scholar is provided a substantial scholarship and must develop a plan for intensive civic engagement either individually or with a small group. Engagement work can be campus or community based. This work has included collaborations with Engineers without Borders to develop a water collection system for a village in Nepal, closing the digital divide in Lafayette, and creating a web-site to map sexual harassment on campus and in our local community, and working to change CU Boulder’s policies for undocumented students. The scholars mutually support each other as an intentionally diverse community. They meet twice monthly for an enriching program of seminars, speakers, collaborative reflection, retreats and opportunities to collaborate and share insights.

The program is funded by the Puksta Foundation and the university and is one of CU Boulder’s “Special Enrichment Opportunities Programs.” The Puksta Scholars has also been recognized as a CU-Boulder “Flagship Program” in the book Guide to Service-Learning Colleges and Universities.
