Program Details:

Families and Educators Together: A Partnership with Boulder Valley School District

Families and Educators Together (FET) teams at six schools in Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) are advancing a community-based model of defining and making progress toward school goals. Made up of family members, community liaisons, community organization representatives, teachers, principals, and other school leaders, FET teams are focused on developing partnerships with families, with a particular emphasis on families that traditionally have been marginalized in school community participation. The teams collaboratively define goals and design activities to pursue their goals together with families in their school communities.

CU Boulder School of Education researchers are partnering with BVSD to support and study the FET teams' processes. Research and theory shared by CU researchers are informing how the teams understand and pursue family partnership in schools, including how to build reciprocal relationships and trust through authentic caring and two-way communication, include families in school decision making, develop the school as a community center, and ensure that partnerships with families honor and include families across all cultural identities and experiences.
