Teachers and Children Reimagine Literacy at the Literacy and Media Center
This project, “Teachers and Children Reimagine Literacy at the Literacy and Media Center” is designed to build a professional development partnership with Lafayette Elementary School, Lafayette, CO. In collaboration with Principal Jackman, CU Boulder faculty Bridget Dalton and Silvia Noguerón-Liu will co-direct an after-school Literacy and Media Center and serve as instructors of two literacy masters courses onsite, on the topics of Digital Literacy and Literacy Assessment and Instruction. Each course will embed a multi-week children’s workshop experience where CU master’s students (who are practicing, certified teachers) will serve as tutors/facilitators of Center activities for Lafayette students.
The program will address mutual goals of innovation and improvement in professional development, technology integration, and literacy assessment and instruction. We will employ a design-based intervention research approach, working in collaboration with the school principal and teachers, a graduate assistant, master’s students, and participating children. An Advisory Board (including CU faculty, BVSD, parents and other school and district partners) will consult and provide feedback on Center activities. We will work on expanding access to resources and professional development for teachers in other schools. Overall, this project will allow CU graduate students to share innovative literacy instruction with a wider network of literacy professionals.
This is a private program by request only, or for a specific audience or group.
