Campus and Community Invited to Participate in Food and Environmental Justice Week at CU-Boulder

Each year millions of people suffer injustices due to environmental degradation and food shortage. The campus and community are invited to learn more about this systemic problem and how to contribute to the solution. CU-Boulder’s first Food and Environmental Justice Week will feature service projects, panels, discussion, and documentary film screenings.

Food justice suggests that there is enough food to feed the world, but that individuals do not have fair or equal access to this food. Therefore, food justice requires we not only investigate where our food comes from and what lays behind global food crises and security issues, but that we offer our talents and service to make immediate and long term change.

A state of Environmental Justice means that everyone, regardless of race, income, ethnicity, geographic location, etc. must have equal access to a clean working and living environment, including access to clean water, quality food, clean air, energy resources and open space.  The concept of environmental justice grew out of the realization that polluting industries and facilities, such as landfills and power plants, are often located near low-income communities and communities of color.

All events are free and open to the public with a suggested donation of 1 non-perishable food item. All non-perishable food and funds collected throughout the week will be donated to Community Food Share.
