CU-Boulder to Treat Trinidad to An Evening at the Opera

TRINIDAD– Trinidad is in for a treat on Friday, October 1, 2010, when singers from CU-Boulder’s Opera Program take the stage at the Massari Theatre at Trinidad State Junior College (TSJC).

Part of the “CU in the Community” series, nine members of the Opera Theatre Singers will share their love of music through performances of select pieces from the repertoire of opera, operetta and musical theatre. In 2010-11, the repertoire theme is "Cirque du Musique," and the songs performed will come from works about carnival, circus, and festival life.

The evening will also feature a special performance by TSJC music department head Alison England Sam, who will perform a solo piece as part of the program.  England Sam has a master’s degree in music from UCLA, a bachelor of fine arts in music and vocal performance from California Institute of the Arts and was a Fellow at the Julliard Opera Center in New York City.

The CU Opera program has been designated a “Program of Excellence” by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education. The award was based on the quality of the voice faculty and students, placement of former students in the professional world, and outside support of the program.

Tickets for the 7 p.m. performance are $4 for adults and $3 for seniors and children. They can be purchased at the door the evening of October 1 or in advance at Curiosities at 305 W. Main Street, Danielson Dry Goods at 35 E. Main Street, or Trinidad Community Foundation at 134 W. Main Street in Suite. 24.

TSJC students and faculty may attend for free with a school identification card. All proceeds will be given to the Southern Colorado Repertory Theatre (SCRT).

The “CU in the Community” series is jointly sponsored by TSJC, Trinidad Community Foundation, Trinidad & Las Animas County Chamber of Commerce, Trinidad Times Independent, and the CU-Boulder Office for University Outreach.
