CU on the Weekend

Take advantage of the unique opportunity to interact with some of CU-Boulder’s best faculty and learn more about their teaching, research, and creative work. CU on the Weekend is a series of one-day classes from CU-Boulder faculty offered on Saturdays and open to the public. Running from 3 to 6 hours, these one-day classes allow for in-depth conversations on a range of engaging subjects.

In February, join English Professor Stephen Graham Jones in the “Zombie Renaissance.” Uncover the fascination with the undead throughout history and examine how the zombie is constantly being used and recycled to express society's many anxieties. Dive in with History Professor Robert Hohlfelder in “Diving for the Ancient Past – Underwater Archaeological Vignettes From the Mediterranean Sea” and learn more about the evolution and future of maritime archaeology. And explore the answers to the question, “Who Causes Third World Underdevelopment?” with Associate Professor Andy Baker from the Department of Political Science.

The CU on the Weekend series of classes will continue in March and April with four more engaging topics. Find out why the American musical has captured the hearts of audiences around the world in “There’s No Business Like Show Business” with Associate Professor Bud Coleman from the Department of Theatre and Dance. Associate Professor Albert Alhadeff from the Department of Art and Art History will explore the world of Picasso and the reasons behind the choice he made to stay in France during World War II. Take a look at “Baseball and the American Dream in History” with History Professor Tom Zeiler. And join Associate Professor Janice Peck from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication to examine one of the most influential women in showbiz, Oprah Winfrey, in “Understanding the Age of Oprah: Where Popular Culture Meets History and Politics.”
