Opera Program Brings Love of Music to Trinidad

Members of the Opera Theatre Singers from CU-Boulder’s College of Music shared their love of music with the Trinidad community this past fall as part of the “CU in the Community” series. The event was the highest attended program of the past three years of the community series.

The program theme of "Cirque du Musique” featured select pieces from the repertoire of opera, operetta, and musical theatre from works about carnival, circus, and festival life. The group’s director isCU-Boulder Assistant Professor Leigh Holman from the Voice, Opera, and Choral Department.

The series is an educational partnership featuring a variety of public programs that bring CU-Boulder faculty and students to Colorado communities.“CU in the Community” is jointly sponsored by Trinidad State Junior College, Trinidad Community Foundation, Trinidad & Las Animas County Chamber of Commerce, Trinidad Times Independent, and the CU-Boulder Office for University Outreach. Local ticket sales for all series events benefit local charities, with the Southern Colorado Repertory Theatre receiving the funds from the opera program.

The Opera Theatre Singers will appear as part of the “CU at the Longmont Public Library” series on February 17 at 7:00 p.m. at the Longmont Theatre located at 513 Main Street. The performance is free and open to the public. For more information about the Opera Theatre Singers, visit the program page at http://outreach.colorado.edu/programs/details/id/104
