The Style of Responsibility: INVST Community Studies’ Ethical Fashion Show is Oct. 19

INVST Community Studies students at the University of Colorado Boulder will showcase sustainable style at the estETHICa Ethical Fashion Show on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Philanthropiece Foundation Barn, 6105 Monarch Road between Boulder and Longmont.

The event is the semi-annual fundraising fashion show for the INVST Communities Studies program. Tickets are $15 for fashionably fabulous seats and $35 for red carpet seating closer to the runway. All proceeds support INVST Community Studies and can be purchased in advance at: www.regonline.com/ethicalfashionshow

INVST Community Studies offers leadership-training programs at CU-Boulder for students interested in social and environmental justice. Since 1990, INVST Community Studies has trained young people to be effective and responsible community leaders who work for positive change in our world. INVST Community Studies serves about 400 young people every year with four different academic programs at CU and other local schools. INVST Community Studies offers service-learning and is an organization of and by the community. The life-altering experiential education offered is only possible with community support.

The Ethical Fashion Show will feature upcycled, thrift, local and sustainable outfits from Goodwill Industries, ARES, Umba, Threads 4 Thought, Stone and Arrow, Bead for Life, Rockin’ Betty’s thrift store, the Sassy Hiker and Rita Cherry Designs. The models of all genders will be from INVST Community Studies and the local non-profit community.

The event will include a food truck (McDevitt’s organic tacos), a fashion truck (denverfashiontruck.com), local wine from Augustina’s Winery, a silent auction and ethical and sustainable looks on the red carpet.

Throughout the night guests will be enlightened to the truths of the fashion world, and how wearing sustainable clothing can contribute to social justice.  INVST Community Studies asks people to think the next time they plan on updating their wardrobes.  Going to local thrift stores, checking tags to avoid buying something that supports sweat shops, and consciously choosing designers who focus on ethics, recycling, upcycling and sustainability are all outcomes of the event.

Carpooling is encouraged. INVST offers a shuttle that will depart from central Boulder at 6 pm. Visit www.regonline.com/ethicalfashionshow for more details about the shuttle.
