Third Annual Buffalo Can Challenge

CU-Boulder's third annual canned food drive, the Buffalo Can Challenge (BuCC), took place on April 9, 2010 in Carlson Gymnasium. It is estimated that Boulder and Broomfield Counties have over 50,000 residents living in poverty and hunger is a real part of their lives. A campus-wide food drive to fight hunger in Boulder County, the event featured can sculptures built by student and staff groups. Nine teams participated in this innovative, creative and fun event.  5,543 pounds of food were collected, enough to feed a family of five for a year, and donated to Community Food Share. 100 students and staff were involved in building sculptures and approximately 1,000 students, faculty and staff donated cans and made monetary donations. This event was made possible by the Volunteer Resource Center, Ball Corporation, Community Food Share, Conference on World Affairs, the Institute for Ethical and Civic Engagement and many wonderful university departments and student groups.
