The Colorado Lullaby Project (CLP) is a community engagement program in the College of Music. CU Boulder student musicians are trained by qualified teaching artists to engage with new and expectant parents to create original lullabies parents can share with their children and families. The CLP also collaborates with the Renée Crown Wellness Institute to conduct research on the impact of the lullabies on the families who create them.
The program is offered during the Fall and Spring semesters of the academic year. Each semester a new cohort of teaching artists and families are assembled. Families are recruited via community partners such as Colorado Childrens Hospital, Boulder Community Health, and other organizations serving new and expectant parents.
There is no fee to participate, though pre-enrollment screening will be required. Sessions with teaching artists typically consist of 2-3 hours over the course of 1 or 2 weekends. Teaching artists will then record two versions of each lullaby — one with a singer and one with only an instrumental track (a “karaoke” track for parent to sing along to if they choose). These recordings are delivered to families by the end of the semester.
Some semesters the College of Music may also organize a public concert of selected lullabies, with the permission of participating families.
