Sommers-Bausch last (SBO) on the CU Boulder campus offers enriching STEM educational experiences for K-12 students.
Daytime field trips are 45 minutes and can be customized to meet your educational goals, interests and special needs. Typically, we demonstrate our 24-inch Boller & Chivens and the two 20-inch Planewave telescopes, as well as our solar telescopes. In addition, we have a heliostat that can display an image of the Sun (weather permitting) and many other exhibits. We can also provide hands-on astronomy activities and labs.
Field trips can be scheduled throughout the year with at least two weeks advanced notice. (However, our primary goal is to serve CU Boulder students and faculty. Therefore, tours will need to be scheduled around our CU Boulder class schedule.) We can also offer nighttime field trips depending on our availability and the telescope use schedule.
To make your field trip even more impactful, consider visiting Fiske Planetarium before or after your tour of the observatory.
There is a nominal fee for each student and we do offer discounts to Title 1 schools. Teachers and chaperons are free. Please visit our website for more details.
