Science Under the Dome is a program dedicated to supporting CU Boulder graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in strengthening their public speaking skills and sharing their expertise with a wider community via monthly talks at Fiske Planetarium.

Program Goals

  • Provide opportunities for early-career CU researchers to build their science communication skills
  • Bring a wide variety of compelling and relevant science topics to the general public in an accessible way. Much of the content in these talks is informed by the research being done at CU Boulder, highlights the intersection of science and larger societal issues, or features suggestions for actionable ways people can get involved in civic responsibility.

This program is comprised of three sub-series of live talks: Science & Society; Climate Change in Our Backyard; and The Science of Sci-Fi. Talks focus on a variety of topics, from the viability of underwater cities to 3D printing the next space race to the impact of climate change on local bees. We typically rotate through these series, offering one each month during the academic year.

Each talk is offered on a Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. All audiences are welcome from the CU and general public communities. Tickets are free for CU students, $10 for adults, and $7 for K-12 teachers, youth (ages 4-17), veterans/military service members, and seniors (65+).
