Due to historical and current sociopolitical circumstances, Black Boulderites are scattered across Boulder Valley and do not often have the context to connect with each other. The primary goal of this Grand Gathering is to be a catalyst to weave together a wider community fabric that supports the individual and collective well-being of Black folk who live, work, or play in Boulder County. The gathering will help build this fabric through offering Black folk a chance to meet new people and get to know one another through performances of music and poetry, and displays of art by fellow Black artists. Secondly, we will learn more about local resources and support-services available to us, such as hair care providers and culturally sensitive medical and mental health care professionals. Finally, the facilitated conversation portion of the gathering will provide the opportunity for attendees to share their lived experiences as Black folk dispersed across Boulder County. This holds the potential to help nurture our community to be more resilient.

Through networking, support systems for Blacks living in the Greater Boulder Valley improve social-emotional well-being. The absence of a thriving Black community in Boulder often leads to a lack of access to information about services and products that meet the unique needs of the Black community. By centering the Black community, the Grand Gathering seeks to bridge this gap by inviting doctors, therapists, dentists, skin care experts, and others that provide services to meet culturally specific needs.
