Western Water Assessment (WWA) is an applied research program in CIRES (the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences) at the University of Colorado Boulder that collaborates with partners to provide actionable science that helps them adapt to climate change. WWA focuses on working with frontline communities most impacted by climate change to assess their needs and produce locally-relevant research to enhance climate resilience. 

Recognizing the increasing issues at the intersection of housing affordability and climate risk, WWA and community partner Green Latinos developed this project to better understand and address climate risks in mobile home park communities.  

Mobile homes provide a critical source of affordable housing for many Colorado residents. However, due to both social and physical/infrastructure factors, mobile home residents are often more at risk of climate-related risks and impacts than people living in other home types. 

Our project works with community partners and mobile home park residents in Pueblo, Colorado, to identify and assess climate risks in mobile homes, including such concerns as extreme heat, wildfire, and water issues.

Through this collaboration, this project aims to identify some of the specific needs and individual, community, and policy level actions that can enhance mobile home park residents’ resiliency to climate threats.
